Is the NFT Craze On its Way To Be Commoditised?

MoonPay launch an NFT Checkout solution to simplify the buying and selling process of digital assets with a card payment.

MoonPay has reimagined the NFT buying and selling experience by removing the need for users to acquire crypto.

With the launch of this world-first credit card checkout for NFTs, I’m wondering whether this could well start to drive mainstream adoption? 🤨

NFT became a major digital topic last year and its application has been a hit predominantly with digital artwork, online gaming and the music industry.

Typically, the purchase of digital assets like NFTs operates within a close loop digital wallet, using crypto to facilitate the transaction. What Moonpay has done, is opening up the opportunity to purchase a digital asset using card directly and hence bypassing the current wallet flow associated with Crypto. They have done this by creating a plug-and-play NFT solution that enables anyone with an NFT collection, companies, brands, creators, to accept card payments. They are calling it NFT Checkout. In simple terms, this is not different than buying a pair of jeans online!

Whilst we have seen NFTs use cases emerging in Retail Fashion, one segment that I have not seen NFTs morphing much into is Travel… which raises the question to why…? As the Travel industry opens up again, could the NFTs blockchain technology provides a new way for airlines, TA’s, hospitality players to:

✅Engage customers into incredibly unique experiences by merging the physical and digital opportunity, where one could substitute or redeem the experience across both environments?

✅Appeal to a new audience by bringing in different industries together and curating a more authentic offering?

✅Promote customers loyalty with quite a differentiated approach to incentives.

A quick scroll online led me to some interesting Travel examples. Maybe 2022 will see more travel innovation erupting…
